I don’t have a huge review for this book because it was not long, or shocking, or profound. But I loved it, anyway. I really did. It has good flow, gorgeous art, and wraps up nicely. Also THERE IS A HOME SCHOOLED CHARACTER. This isn’t a major plot point. It’s not about how he adjusts to “real school.” He’s just randomly home schooled. My fifth-grade-self is shedding tears.

Anyway, this book is about a 13-year-old girl whose mother is dead, father is a magician, pet is a rabbit, and house is ordinary…except actually none of those things are really true. When her dad disappears and her house reveals its true self, she realizes she’s grown up in a world of magic without ever realizing it. She goes on an adventure full of twists and turns, and while there is a message about defending your friends, it’s mostly fun and fantasy, and I love that.

This graphic novel is GREAT for reluctant readers, releases today and you should read it!

DC Comics brings us another awesome graphic novel for kids in @matthewjcody and @yoshiyoshitani ‘s Zatanna and the House of Secrets. Zatanna and her stage magician father live in an unusual house, but she is a pretty ordinary kid going to school, standing up to bullies and trying to figure out her best friend. Zatanna is dealing with ordinary kid stuff until her father runs out of the house and leaves her in charge of taking care of the pet rabbit. It doesn’t take long for her to discover that her life is not at all ordinary and she has more magical power in her than she ever knew. Full of mystery, friendship and adventure, this book is a delight!
